Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa – City Tour Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your h

otel. After a short rest, begin a half-day city tour starting with a scenic drive up to Mount Entoto for a panoramic view of the city. From there, descend to visit the National Museum, where you’ll see the world-famous fossil remains of “Lucy,” one of the oldest hominids ever discovered. Next, visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral, an important spiritual and historical landmark. You’ll also explore the Ethnographic Museum, housed in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie, which offers deep insight into Ethiopia’s diverse cultures. To conclude the day, head to Merkato, the largest open-air market in East Africa, for a taste of the city's vibrant commerce and local life. You’ll spend the night at a hotel in Addis Ababa.

Day 2: Fly to Mekelle – Drive to Dodom – Trek to Erta Ale Volcano In the morning, you will take a domestic flight from Addis Ab

aba to Mekelle. Upon arrival, begin your journey into the Danakil Depression with a drive from Mekelle to Dodom, located at the base of Erta Ale Volcano. Though the distance is just 70 kilometers, the road is rough and challenging, often taking up to 5 hours as you pass through lava fields, sandy desert, and isolated Afar villages. After an early dinner at the base camp in Dodom, begin a night trek at around 8:00 PM to the summit of Erta Ale. The trek takes about 3 hours and is supported by camels that carry all camping equipment and supplies. Once at the top, witness the dramatic, glowing lava lake, one of only a few in the world, and spend the night camping at the crater rim under the open sky.

03

Day 3: Erta Ale – Dodom – Hamedella After experiencing sunrise over the crater, begin your descent back to Dodom, arriving by m

id-morning. Following a brief rest and lunch, continue your adventure with a drive through the harsh yet beautiful Danakil landscape toward Hamedella, a small Afar village near the salt flats. This area is home to about 500 people and is the base for excursions into Dallol and the surrounding salt plains. The drive offers a chance to experience the vast, sun-scorched desert and glimpse the traditional life of the Afar people. Upon arrival in Hamedella, settle into your campsite and enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by one of the most remote places on Earth.

Day 4: Hamedella – Dallol – Salt Flats – Mekelle – Fly to Addis Ababa Your final day begins with a drive to Ragad (Asebo), wher

e local Afar people mine salt by hand. Watch as workers cut large blocks from the salt crust and load them onto camel caravans, a practice unchanged for centuries. From there, proceed to Dallol, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth, located 116 meters below sea level. This surreal landscape is filled with colorful acidic springs, salt formations, and sulfur deposits, creating an otherworldly setting like no other. You will also visit Lake Assale, a shallow salt lake that reflects the sky in stunning hues. After exploring the area and capturing some unforgettable photographs, drive back to Mekelle in the late afternoon. From there, board your evening flight back to Addis Ababa, concluding your incredible journey through Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression.
