01

This unique 4-day adventure invites you deep into the heart of Ethiopia’s highlands to experience one of the oldest and most sustainable traditions in the country: beekeeping in Debr

We begin our journey in Gondar, driving through the majestic Simien landscape to Debark, the park headquarters, where we arrange permits and meet our local guides and scouts. From there, we hike through scenic trails toward Sankaber, and then continue trekking to the enchanting area of Debr, a hidden forest village known for its ancient, tree-based beekeeping practices. Here, the air is filled with the soft buzz of bees and the scent of wildflowers, and the tall trees hold not just hives but stories passed through generations.

02

Over the next two days, we fully engage with the local way of life

We’ll witness how local communities care for wild bee colonies, how they harvest honey using time-honored, eco-friendly techniques, and how each hive is respected as a sacred source of both food and livelihood. With guidance from local elders and beekeepers, we’ll get hands-on—climbing trees, preparing new hives, and helping transfer bees into safe, clean shelters. We'll also learn to construct traditional beehives from natural materials and explore the deep cultural meanings behind honey in local rituals, medicine, and daily life.

03

Each night, we’ll camp under the stars, surrounded by forest sounds and warm conversations by the fire

Meals are shared with our hosts, made from local ingredients, often including fresh honey straight from the hive. These days are more than observation—they’re about connection, participation, and learning from a way of life that respects nature’s rhythm.

04

On Day Four, we begin our trek back, carrying not just honey but wisdom and stories

Our vehicle will be waiting to take us from Debark back to Gondar, where this unforgettable journey ends—but the memories of beehives in the high trees, of laughter shared over honey tea, and of walking side by side with nature-loving communities will stay with us forever.
